Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
It is recommended by the World Health Organisation and National Heart Foundation that following a cardiac admission, all patients should engage with a cardiac rehabilitation program to start them on the road to recovery, and to assist with the management of their heart condition.
Cardiac rehab at Joondalup Health Campus is tailored to individual needs and combines exercise with a series of free education sessions. Support is provided by a dedicated team of health professionals which include a cardiac rehabilitation nurse, physiotherapists, dietitian, occupational therapist, pharmacist and psychologist.
Attending the cardiac rehabilitation program gives patients and their family, support and information to make behavioural and lifestyle changes to manage their condition after surgery or a heart related health issue.
Cardiac rehab can improve the ability to return to normal activities, manage symptoms, reduce heart disease, risk factors, and increase social independence and confidence. These important lifestyle changes help to establish healthier habits in both the short and long term and help protect the heart in the future.
Our team is committed to providing the highest level of individualised care. For more information regarding any aspect of the program, please contact the cardiac rehabilitation nurse on 9400 9953.
Coronary Care Unit
If required, Joondalup Private Hospital patients have access to the 10-bed JHC Coronary Care Unit (CCU) that provides experienced health professionals including cardiologists, cardiac nurses, cardiac rehabilitation nurses and cardiac sonographers who work seamlessly to provide care for acute coronary care patients.
The CCU is a high-care environment with a high ratio of nurses to patients on the ward. Monitoring equipment enables nursing staff to constantly monitor heart rhythms, blood pressure and oxygen levels. Information is sent to a central monitor so staff can still monitor each patient even when not at the bedside.
CCU patients will all have continuous cardiac monitoring and comprehensive cardiac testing as appropriate. Transthoracic echocardiograms are performed by our specially trained cardiac sonographers and interpreted by subspeciality trained echo specialists. Interventional procedures are performed by subspeciality trained interventional cardiologists. Pacemaker and defibrillator procedures are performed by subspeciality trained electrophysiologists.
Regular multidisciplinary meetings of the cardiology team ensure ongoing focus of quality in every aspect of our service. Private patients requiring cardiothoracic surgery can be cared for at the Mount Hospital. All appropriate patients will be offered cardiac rehabilitation services.
The CCU is supported by a full range of onsite services at JHC including a nine-bed Intensive Care Unit and six-bed High Dependency Unit to treat patients requiring high-level care and monitoring. Radiology procedures are performed in partnership with Perth Radiology Clinic.
Our patients and their visitors are well supported on the private hospital ward H4 and will have verbal and written education provided regarding their condition and management.
Cardiac Catheter Laboratory
Our modern Cardiac Catheter Laboratory (CCL) provides advanced imaging technology to assist with the diagnosis and treatment of a range of heart and vascular conditions.
Our experienced subspeciality trained interventional cardiologists, radiologists and nurses can perform a number of tests and treatments onsite at the co-located Joondalup Health Campus and focus on patient safety and comfort.
The advanced technology offered in the CCL provides increased efficiency and safety to patients and doctors and allows prompt and accurate diagnosis, as well as high-resolution image-guided assistance during procedures.
Telemetry Care Unit
The Telemetry Care Unit (TCU) at JHC has eight beds and provides continuous ECG monitoring care to be delivered within the one location in the hospital for appropriate cardiac and medical patients.
Telemetry involves the transmission of cardiac signals such as heart rate and rhythm from the patient to a central receiving location where they are displayed for monitoring by the care team.
