From Thursday 25 November our main public car park (P1) is closing as we build a multi-storey car park with hundreds of new bays, as part of the Government’s major expansion of Joondalup Health Campus.
These works will continue through to September 2022. Whilst every effort will be made to minimise disruption as we undertake construction of the new multi-storey public car park, you should allow extra time to find parking when visiting hospital during this period.
The arrangements we are putting in place during construction need to balance access and availability of parking for visitors and patients, with site access and construction needs for the $256.7 million expansion project.
Please note that at all times during the construction program you will be able to drive into JHC to access the drop off and pick up locations for:
- emergency department
- public hospital main reception
- private hospital main reception
- discharge lounge
- patient equipment centre
- after hours GP clinic.
Where do I park?
During construction most visitors to the hospital need to enter the hospital from Lakeside Drive (instead of Shenton Avenue) and there will be signage in place directing visitors to park in the expanded public P9 car park area (see map).
This ‘pay and display ticket’ car park capacity in car park P9 will be increased to have 305 public parking bays available for use. A free shuttle bus will be available from here – read below for full details on this service.
Or if you prefer to walk, the footpath located closest to the hospital buildings will remain open for use to enable safe movement from the main public hospital reception, around the emergency department and private hospital entrances.
There will be clear wayfinding signage on the ground for people who wish to walk from the car park to the entrance they need.
Free shuttle bus
A free shuttle bus will be running regularly from this car park around to the Emergency Department and both the public and private hospital entrances.
There will be several shuttle bus stops located in the P9 public car park, please look for the signage for the pick-up and drop-off locations and timings of the service runs.
This service runs 5.30am-8.15pm daily and will stay in place for the duration of the public car park build to provide safe, convenient transport support to people who wish to use this option to access the front of the hospital.
The bus has capability for people with limited mobility, equipment, or prams.
Where else can I park?
You can also continue through the P7 car park around to the P12 parking area which is located out the front of the Joondalup Private Hospital.
In the P12 car park there are just over a hundred ‘pay and display ticket’ parking bays, a patient drop-off and pick-up area, some convenient 30-minute parking and several ACROD parking bays.
The Shenton Avenue entrance will have upgraded signage to direct you as you drive in, however please be aware that this entrance will at times be used by trucks entering and exiting the Multiplex construction area.
The car park P4 ‘pay and display ticket’ public car park can be accessed via Regents Park Road and contains 54 general parking bays and five ACROD bays.
The entrances to the Mental Health Unit, Wanneroo Wing in the hospital and the COVID Clinic are adjacent to this car park. Also located nearby are the public dental and community health buildings.
We advise JHC patients and visitors to plan your visit ahead of time, review the current hospital parking maps and guidelines to make the visit go as smoothly as possible, particularly during peak periods.
For patients or visitors with a disability
All four public parking areas contain some dedicated bays for drivers with ACROD permits. These car parks are:
- P1 car park – 14 new ‘pay as you leave’ ticket parking bays (enter via Shenton Ave) open from 25 November
- P4 car park – Two ‘pay and display’ ticket parking bays (maximum five hour stay – enter via Regents Park Road).
- P9 car park – Four ‘pay and display’ ticket parking bays (enter via Lakeside Drive).
- P12 car park– Pay and display ticket parking (enter via Shenton Ave or can be accessed from entering in from Lakeside Drive and driving through the P9 car park).
Heading to the Emergency Department?
A number of convenient 30-minute drop-off and pick-up bays will remain available in front of the Emergency Department (P11 car park) and Joondalup Private Hospital (P12 car park).
This is only for short-term (30 minutes or less) parking – so whilst it is okay to park her to help drop someone off you should be prepared to then move your vehicle and park it in the longer-term parking bays in car parks P9 or P12.
Catching a CAT?
At all times during construction the walking path from the CAT bus stop on Shenton Avenue along the west side of the P1 car park down to the main entrance will remain open.
